Summary:

The purpose of this grant agreement is to continue funding an existing County program to protect air quality. The program monitors fine particulate matter air pollution levels in accordance with EPA requirements and standards that comply with National Ambient Air Quality Standards.  The agreement provides the County a total of $90,000.00 for the first project year.  The grant is 100% reimbursable and no County match is required. Subsequent annual amendments for each project year of federal appropriations will be necessary.

Background/Explanation:

This grant program has been ongoing since 1998. The County’s air program is recognized by the EPA, State of Florida and Department of Environmental Protection as an approved local air pollution control program eligible to receive federal grant funding.  The County has the authority, through prior agreements, to protect air quality through the implementation of federal and state air pollution rules and regulations.

Fiscal Impact:

The funding request is for $180,000.00 for the project period April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2022 ($90,000.00 per project year). This action approves funding for the project’s first-year budget cycle in the amount of $90,000.00. This grant provides 100% reimbursement for project costs. No County match is required.

The total estimated expenditure and associated reimbursement is included in the Public Works Environmental Management Division operating budget (General Fund). This grant is consistent with the FY20 Adopted Budget and FY21 Budget Request.
