Summary:
The purpose of this project is to furnish and install two (2) new rotary drum thickeners (RDTs) replacing the existing RDT, that is at the end of its serviceable life.
The new RDTs will improve reliability to the sludge thickening process and simultaneously will allow the repair and maintenance to occur without interrupting the treatment process.
Background Information:
Work includes furnishing and installation of two RDTs, associated pipe, valves, flocculation tanks, a polymer system, and a new covered structural platform. The RDT is required to thicken the waste sludge prior to dewatering and hauling to the South Cross Bayou for pelletizing. The current RDT is at the end of its service life. Since the RDT must operate 24/7, redundant RDTs will allow alternating run times between the two units to allow for maintenance. This will eliminate the need for emergency pumping/hauling of waste sludge for periodic maintenance.
Fiscal Impact:
Expenditure not to exceed: $1,777,777.00
Funding for this project is derived from the Utilities Department Sewer Enterprise Fund.
