Summary:
In accordance with the Board’s approval of BP projects and associated funding for each project on December 13, 2016, this Funding Agreement with Florida Veterans Memorial Fund will provide $150,000.00 to support Phase II of the Veterans Memorial Plaza at Crest Lake Park.
Background/Explanation:
This Agreement will provide partial funding for Phase II of the Veterans Memorial Plaza at Crest Lake Park. Phase II includes but not limited to irrigation, curbs, palms, grading, lighting, sod, production and installation of six (6) bronze statues to honor Veterans of wars from World War II to present and any other charges for completion of Phase II. Along the walls that encircle the memorial, plaques made of black granite with silver letters will pay tribute to Veterans.
Four years ago, Tampa Bay Veterans Alliance began an initiative to create a Memorial Park in north-central Pinellas County to give recognition and tribute to Veterans who have honorably served their country. The City of Clearwater provided research and development assistance and agreed to be a matching sponsor of the development of the $1,300,000.00 Project. Phase I of the project has been completed, and TBVA seeks $500,000.00 for the completion of Phase II. The Board committed to provide a portion of this funding from BP Settlement Funds. Tampa Bay Veterans Alliance will continue to receive funds from individuals and organizations that purchase plaques coupled with fund raising events to raise the remaining funds to complete Phase II.
Fiscal Impact:
This Interlocal Agreement provides funding of $150,000.00 from the $7.1 million BP Economic Settlement Funds. The funding has been appropriated for this purpose in the FY2017 Budget. The County shall have no obligations related to maintenance, operation, and/or any other activity yielding a fiscal impact.
