Recommended Action
Approval of the Municipal Services Taxing Unit (MSTU) funding request, in the amount of $11,517.02, for the Tierra Verde Community Association (TVCA) Tennis and Pickleball Court improvements.
• The MSTU funding is being requested to replace worn out pickleball net systems and to purchase shade cabanas for the TVCA recreation complex.
• The pickleball nets are portable and can be easily moved to allow tennis players to use the permanent tennis nets. The shade cabanas will be installed on the court fence and can be easily removed in advance of a storm.
• The project funding request for the total project is $11,517.02.
• The request for funding in the amount $11,517.02 is a one-time expenditure of budgeted MSTU Special Projects funds. Funding is included in the General Government MSTU cost center within the General Fund and is consistent with the Fiscal Year 2024 approved budget.

TVCA is a Homeowners Association that provides services for the residents of Tierra Verde and ensures it maintains the vision of a well-kept, organized community that all members can enjoy living in.
Pickleball has become a very popular sport and the TVCA is trying to accommodate the growing pickleball community on Tierra Verde by providing nets and shade for the players.
For the past few years, TVCA has been purchasing/replacing pickleball nets for the community but with so much use the nets wear out quickly therefore, TVCA has purchased sturdier nets. The pickleball and tennis players have also requested shade for the courts due to the extreme heat, so TVCA has purchased fence cabanas. TVCA is requesting reimbursement for the sturdier nets and shade cabanas through Pinellas County MSTU Funds.

The MSTU Special Projects Funding opportunity was created by the Board of County Commissioners for the purpose of supporting projects that enhance community and neighborhood opportunities in unincorporated areas of Pinellas County. These MSTU Special Projects Awards are intended to support culture, recreation, and community engagement opportunities for residents in unincorporated areas that are comparable to those opportunities which municipalities typically provide to their residents.

This request for funding in the amount of $11,517.02 is a one-time expenditure of budgeted MSTU Special Project funds. Funding is included in the General Government MSTU cost center within the General Fund and is consistent with amounts provided during the FY24 budget development.
