Approval of the Assignment of Special Registration Number and Release of Present Registration Number for the Mosquito Control Helicopter.

Anticipated receipt of new H-125 helicopter in late November 2023. Inoperable Bell-47 helicopter to receive special registration number N257PC through August 31, 2024.

AC Form 8050-64 will be mailed to Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) to release registration number N14806 from inoperable Bell-47 to make available to register new H-125 aircraft.

This allows the County to use old registration number for the new helicopter. County will remove and replace old N14806 number on the inoperable helicopter.

The Board of County Commissioners Chairman is required to sign as the owner of the helicopter. "Date Placed on Aircraft" line below the signature block will be the signature date.

There is no cost associated to this request.

Summary:

Summary

The Public Works Mosquito Control Division currently has two (2) Bell-47 helicopters. One (1) of the two (2) helicopters is no longer operable but still registered with the FAA, registration number N14806. Mosquito Control plans to retain helicopter registration number N14806 associated with its program and transfer from the current inoperable Bell-47 to the new H-125 helicopter. The H-125 helicopter is expected to be received in late November 2023.

While the new H-125 helicopter has a temporary registration number that will allow it to fly, Mosquito Control is initiating the signature of AC Form 8050-64 so that the permanent registration number (N14806) can be transferred and correctly painted on the aircraft per FAA regulation prior to receiving it in November. This Form releases the registration number from the inoperable helicopter, making it available for registering the new helicopter, and assigns a special registration number of N257PC to the inoperable helicopter through August 31, 2024.

Body

Background Information:
FAA Registration is a legal requirement for flying. While the new helicopter is currently assigned a temporary registration number that will allow it to fly, additional down time will be incurred if it is not registered with the permanent registration number prior to receipt in late November 2023. Processing and transfer of the registration number is at no cost. The inoperable helicopter is not insured due to inoperability and County Risk Management is aware of the intention to transfer the registration number to the new helicopter. Mosquito Control will coordinate with Risk Management when the registration process is complete for insurance purposes.
