4.5 Provide safe and effective transportation systems to support the efficient flow of motorists, commerce, and regional connectivity
Summary:
This project has experienced delay due to COVID-19, contractor staff changes, directional bore errors, and utility conflicts. In addition, the contractor, Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. (FSC) is going out of business and is unable to complete this project. County staff is working with the FSC and their bonding agency to determine how the project will be completed. It is anticipated that once a new contractor has been contracted, the project can be completed prior to June 30, 2021. FDOT has agreed to extend the Agreement to June 30, 2021.
Background/Explanation:
This project includes installation of ATMS/Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) on Alternate U.S. Highway 19 South from U.S. Highway 19 (34th Street) to SR 60 (Gulf to Bay Boulevard), approved by the Board of County Commissioners in the amount of $1,682,473.00. The project will enhance traffic flow through video detection and adaptive traffic signal control, provide necessary surveillance on the roadway and traffic conditions, and provide motorists with information for alerts, incidents and evacuation. The Agreement provides fifty percent (50%) of the construction funding required for construction. The Agreement was previously extended until December 31, 2020, per Time Extension No.1, due to FSC falling behind schedule.
