Approval of the Equitable Sharing Agreement and Certification between the Department of Justice, the Pinellas County Sheriff, and the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners (BCC).
• Submission within 60 days of end of fiscal year is necessary to maintain compliance and enable continued participation in the program.
• Program funds, commonly known as federal law enforcement trust funds, must be used for law enforcement purposes in accordance with the published program guidelines, this Equitable Sharing Agreement, and the applicable sections of the Code of Federal Regulations.
• Total receipts in Fiscal Year 2020 were $1,923,340.59 (including beginning fund balance) and expenditures were $1,685,181.03.
• Expenditures are reported to the BCC on a quarterly basis along with expenditures for the local law enforcement trust fund.

Summary
Execution of this Agreement and Certification is necessary to maintain compliance and enable continued participation in the program. The program enables the Sheriff to receive federal forfeiture funds (commonly known as federal law enforcement trust funds) that may be used for law enforcement purposes in accordance with program guidelines.

Background Information:
The Board Chair and Sheriff execute this Agreement and Certification annually to enable continued participation in the program. As a result, the Sheriff receives federal forfeiture funds that are used for various law enforcement purposes. The expenditure of funds is reported to the Board on a quarterly basis along with the expenditures of local law enforcement trust funds.
Fiscal Impact:
Total receipts in FY20 were $1,923,340.59 (including beginning fund balance) and expenditures were $1,685,181.03.
