Background Information:
The Local Planning Agency (LPA) is tasked with preparation of the comprehensive plan and plan amendments, as well as making recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) regarding the adoption and amendment of such plan. The LPA reviews land development regulations and amendments thereto and makes recommendations to the BCC on their consistency to the comprehensive plan. The LPA also reviews and makes recommendations to the BCC on each proposal for change in land use or zoning, a proposed or amended development agreement, and conditional use requests.
The LPA is made up of seven members, one nominated by each member of the BCC, and then appointed in whole by the BCC. The term of office shall run concurrent with the term of the nominating Commissioner. The BCC may appoint one alternate to serve in the absence of any regular member. A representative of the Pinellas County School District, appointed by the School Board, shall be a non-voting member.
