Approval of the award of bid to Suncoast Development of Pinellas County, Inc. (Suncoast) for the Park Boulevard (Blvd) Safe Routes to School (SRTS) sidewalk improvement project.

 

                     The purpose of this SRTS project consists of constructing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalks, curb ramps and driveways on both sides of Park Blvd (CR694) from Starkey Road to 66th Street North.

                     Four bids were received with award recommended to the lowest responsive responsible bid Suncoast in the amount of $1,517,031.30.

                     All work is expected to be completed within 250 consecutive calendar days.

                     The proposed upgrades will reduce potential conflicts for disabled citizens and afford a safer walking experience for the public at large while also encouraging citizens to consider alternative means of transportation.


Bid No. 189-0092 (JJ); PID No. 001512A; in the amount of $1,517,031.30 on the basis of being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received meeting specifications. Authorize the Chairman to sign and the Clerk of the Court to attest.

Summary:

The purpose of this SRTS project consists of constructing ADA compliant sidewalks, curb ramps and driveways on both sides of Park Blvd (CR694) from Starkey Road to 66th Street North. A new traffic signal will be constructed at the existing mid-block crossing near the Flea market and 79th Street North. Additionally, 74th Avenue North (frontage road to Park Blvd) will be modified to provide a drop curb and a six foot (6') sidewalk on the north side of the road.

 

Background Information:

Public Works Transportation, in conjunction with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) through the Local Agency Program (LAP), identified the need to upgrade the existing sidewalk, driveways and ramps along Park Blvd, to be compliant with the ADA, in response to citizen concerns. The proposed upgrades will reduce potential conflicts for disabled citizens and afford a safer walking experience for the public at large while also encouraging citizens to consider alternative means of transportation.

 

Fiscal Impact:

Expenditure not to exceed: $1,517,031.30.

 

Funding is derived primarily from a LAP federal pass-through grant administered by the FDOT, with partial funding provided by the Penny for Pinellas and Utilities Enterprise Funds.
