Recommended Action

Approval and execution by the County Administrator, as requested by the Human Resources Department, of the Pharmacy Benefit Management Agreement Service Addendum with Express Scripts, Inc. for group prescription drug benefits.

Contract No. 156-0175-P (RW) increase in the amount of $29,000.00 for a revised amount of $1,104,000.00 through December 31, 2019.

Summary:

Approval of this addendum provides additional group prescription drug benefits for County employees. The addendum includes program administration fees for opioid management, to prevent further costs, resulting in an increase of $0.39 per employee.  The program components of the Advanced Opioid Management Solution include limiting the initial fill to a seven day supply; concurrent drug utilization review; education to members on the risks associated to addiction; disposal bags for unused prescriptions for members; and a fraud/waste/abuse program.

 

 

Background/Explanation:

This contract for employee prescription drug benefits was approved by the County Administrator on December 29, 2016 and ratified by the Board of County Commissioners on January 10, 2017.

The additional amount is for the opioid management program to prevent overall additional costs estimated to be between $100,000 and $200,000 without this preventative program

 

Fiscal Impact:

 

Addendum Opioid program fees not-to-exceed                            $        29,000.00                                          

 

Funds are derived from the Human Resources Employee Benefits budget. 

 

Delegated Authority:

Authority for the County Administrator to sign this addendum is granted under Code Section 2-62 (a)(2).
