Recommended Action:

Recommended Action

Approve the extension of the East Highpoint Fire District Fire Protection Services Agreement with the City of St. Petersburg. Authorize the Chairman to sign and the Clerk of the Court to attest.

 

                     The City of St. Petersburg currently contracts with the County to provide fire protection and suppression services to the eastern portion of the Highpoint Fire District pursuant to the 2013 Fire Protection Services Agreement dated July 23, 2013.

 

                     The City of St. Petersburg and the County wish to extend the agreement for five (5) years with a new expiration of September 30, 2023.

 

                     The County’s funding amount to staff and operate the station is calculated as a proportionate share between the City and the County based upon property values for the east Highpoint Fire District. This is the methodology used by the County for the dependent Fire Districts.

 

                     Emergency Medical Services funding is provided through the Advanced Life Support First Responder Agreement for the Firefighter/Paramedic position. The per position cost is $529,890.00 for FY18-19.

Summary:

The City of St. Petersburg currently contracts with the County to provide fire protection and suppression services to the eastern portion of the Highpoint Fire District pursuant to the 2013 Fire Protection Services Agreement dated July 23, 2013.

Background Information:

The City of St. Petersburg operates the County’s Fire Station 14 that serves the East Highpoint and Feather Sound area. An Advanced Life Support (ALS) Fire Engine staffed with three personnel comprised of a Fire Lieutenant and two Firefighters one of which is a Paramedic provide Fire Protection and ALS First Responder Services.

The County’s funding amount to staff and operate the station is calculated as a proportionate share between the City and the County based upon property values for the east Highpoint Fire District. This is the methodology used by the County for the dependent Fire Districts.

EMS funding is provided through the ALS First Responder Agreement for the Firefighter/Paramedic position. The per position cost is $529,890.00 for FY18-19.

 

Fiscal Impact:

Funding for FY18-19 shall not exceed $391,359.00 and will be based upon the final tax roll and the adopted budget. This agreement is consistent with the FY19 Tentative Budget and millage rate for the Highpoint unincorporated area special fire protection district.
