Approval of the award of bid to Kamminga & Roodvoets, Inc. for the sidewalk & Americans with Disabilities Act improvements - Phase 2A project on Indian Rocks Road (Wilcox Rd to Church Creek).

Contract No. 178-0515-CP (JJ); PID No. 003128A in the amount of $567,279.00 on the basis of being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received meeting specifications. All work is expected to be completed within 270 consecutive calendar days. Authorize the Chairman to sign and Clerk of Court to attest.

Summary:

The purpose of this project is to construct Americans with Disability Act (ADA) compliant sidewalks, ramps and driveways, as well as an 8-foot shoulder, 5 feet paved with 3 feet unpaved, and associated drainage along the east side of Indian Rocks Road (County Road 233) corridor from Wilcox Road to Church Creek which is a distance of approximately 0.3 miles.

This project will close the gaps in the existing sidewalk network and improve intermodal transportation facilities in the corridor that runs from West Bay Drive to Walsingham Road. This corridor currently serves important employment and community facilities such as Largo Medical Center, Anona Elementary School, Anona Methodist Church, Serenity Gardens Memorial Gardens Park, numerous retail centers and provides connections to residential networks.

 

Background Information:

This segment of Indian Rocks Road is functionally classified as an "urban collector" by Forward Pinellas. Indian Rocks Road is priority number 16 for enhancements to the existing 2 lane undivided roadway section in the 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan.  The project is identified and funded in Penny Ill and is the second phase of three sidewalk segments programmed along this corridor (Phase 2B will follow in FY19).

 

Fiscal Impact:

Expenditure not to exceed $567,279.00

 

Funding is derived from the Local Infrastructure Sales Tax (Penny for Pinellas): Transportation Program Sidewalk Projects program allocation.
