Approval of the award of bid to Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. for the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) project at Alternate U.S. Highway 19 South from State Road 60 to 34th Street North.

Bid No.178-0458-CP (JJ); PID 002598A; in the amount of $2,160,181.25 on the basis of being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received meeting specifications. All work is expected to be completed within 365 consecutive calendar days. Authorize the Chairman to sign and Clerk of Court to attest.

Summary:

The purpose of this project is to install fiber optic cable, closed circuit television cameras and dynamic message signs on Alt US 19 South from State Road 60 to US 19 (34th Street). This project will enhance corridor flow of traffic through video detection and adaptive traffic signal control, provide surveillance of roadway and traffic conditions and motorists with information concerning alerts, incidents, evacuations and similar important public notices.

 

Background Information:

This project is part of an overall implementation of the Countywide Advanced Traffic Management System / Intelligent Transportation System effort that was adopted and funded by the Board of County Commissioners (Board) utilizing the Ninth Cent Local Option Fuel Tax in 2006. As part of the overall plan, this segment is being constructed based on a priority list of projects developed by the Board and the Metropolitan Planning Organization (Forward Pinellas).

 

Fiscal Impact:

Expenditure not to exceed: $2,160,181.25

 

Funding is derived from the Ninth Cent Local Option Fuel Tax (50%) and grant funding through the Florida Department of Transportation (50%).
