Recommended Action
Adopt a resolution approving the honorary roadway designation of bridge numbers 150202 and 150203 on S.R. 580/Main Street as “Gold Star Family Memorial Bridge, dedicated to U.S. Army Cpl. Frank R. Gross,” and additionally requesting the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to create, place, and maintain the designated roadway markers.
It is further recommended the Clerk of the Circuit Court be authorized to record this resolution in the public records of the County.

Summary:
With the adoption of this resolution, the Board of County Commissioners provides its support of the dedication of bridge numbers 150202 and 150203 on S.R. 580/Main Street as “Gold Star Family Memorial Bridge, dedicated to U.S. Army Cpl. Frank R. Gross,” and additionally requests the FDOT to create, place, and maintain the designated roadway markers.
Section 334.071(3), Florida Statutes, requires support through the passage of a resolution from any city or county commission whose jurisdiction the road crosses.
Background Information:
Cpl. Frank R. Gross joined the Army in May of 2010 and graduated from basic combat training, Ft. Benning, GA where he earned the Basic Rifle Marksmanship award. He was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX until he deployed. CPL Gross served in Afghanistan with Charlie Troop, 2nd Squadron of the 38th CAV Regiment, 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, Long Range Surveillance, Phantom Trackers, out of Ft. Hood, TX.
Cpl. Gross was a gunner conducting a combat vehicle recovery mission in South Eastern, Afghanistan, when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device, he died instantly.
