Summary:

This TCP was developed through the criteria set forth by the RTM program, and requires the installation of two (2) multi-way stop conditions on Republic Drive at Kimberly Court and Marsha Drive between Belcher Road to US Highway 19 North.  Each multi-stop condition includes a stop sign and all associated pavement markings.  Additionally, an electronic speed feedback sign will be installed for westbound drivers on Republic Drive, west of US Highway 19.  These multi-way stop conditions are being installed in an effort to reduce speed and “cut-through” traffic on Republic Drive.

In accordance with the RTM procedures, neighborhood residents submitted a request to the Public Works Traffic Engineering Division.  Traffic investigations and studies were then conducted.  Petitions were distributed by the County and returned by the residents.  The residents provided 88.6% (60% requirement) endorsement of the TCP.  A total of 91.2% (90% requirement) of the affected property owners were notified.

Background Information:

The RTM program was adopted pursuant to Resolution No. 97-291, dated October 14, 1997, and revised on June 4, 2002 and June 7, 2005.  Implementation of the RTM program provides the County various measures to control excessive traffic volume and speed in residential areas.  The program also provides a process in which residents can find solutions to residential traffic concerns.

Fiscal Impact:

Estimated cost of installation: $7,035.36

Estimated cost of annual maintenance: $912.84

Funding for this improvement is included in the Department of Public Works, Transportation Division’s annual operating budget.
