Background Information:
This Notice of Award is issued from HRSA’s approval of the Non-Competing Continuation (NCC) Progress Report. The Board of County Commissioners accepted the initial award for the first year of funding in the amount of $922,179.00 at its March 29, 2016 regular meeting, and the second year of funding in the amount of $1,371,615.00 at the February 21, 2017 regular meeting.
Since 1988, medical and dental care referrals have been provided to the homeless population in the County via the MMU. Primary health care is provided at no charge to homeless patients with incomes at or below 100% of the FPL. The MMU visits shelters, soup kitchens, drop-in centers and other locations where the homeless congregate. In late 2014, the County began offering additional medical services in the Safe Harbor homeless shelter with federal service expansion funding. In the spring of 2016, those services moved into the new Bayside Health Clinic located adjacent to the shelter.
In 2017, the County served 2,849 unduplicated homeless patients through the MMU and Bayside Health Clinic.
Fiscal Impact:
This award totals $1,414,215.00 in federal funds. The County anticipates applying non-federal funds to the program totaling approximately $3,114,863.00. These funds are included in the Human Services FY18 appropriated budget.
