Contract No. 167-0295-PB(LN) in the amount of $793,180.00.

Summary:

This request seeks purchase authorization for one (1) Shark Low Speed Shredder to be utilized by the Solid Waste Department (Solid Waste).  This shredder will be utilized to process material which includes mattresses, furniture, vehicle tires, and any other bulky waste to improve the management and processing of the waste stream delivered daily to the Waste to Energy (WTE) facility, as well as to conserve landfill space.

 

Background Information:

Solid Waste performed a pilot study to determine the costs and benefits of processing tires and bulky waste, and determine the type of shredder that would be most effective with Pinellas County’s waste stream.  The results of the study were used to develop a Decision Package as part of the 2017 budget request for implementation of a bulky waste processing program.  The Decision Package was approved and the funds were added to the Solid Waste budget for equipment and staff associated with the program.

The purchase of the bulk waste shredder is per pricing, terms and conditions of Houston-Galveston Area Purchasing Cooperative (HGAC) Contract No. EM06-15.  The HGAC is a very large governmental purchasing cooperative consisting of many cities and counties in the greater Houston, Texas area.  Pinellas County currently purchases rolling stock via this contract receiving very competitive pricing.   

 

Fiscal Impact:

Total expenditure not to exceed:  $793,180.00

 

Funding for this purchase is derived from the Solid Waste Renewal and Replacement budget.
