Approve and execute the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Pinellas County School Board for enhancements and retrofits to increase shelter capacity and capability of Largo High School.

Summary:

The MOU is to provide $515,867.11 towards the enhancements and retrofits in Largo High School. These enhancements will ensure emergency water supply, upgrade the generator to run for a minimum of 8 hours at full capacity, and ensure proper air ventilation. This will yield over 5,000 shelter spaces.

 

Background Information:

The major rebuild of Largo High School provided the opportunity to ensure a level of resiliency in the new shelter spaces and the community (water, feeding, and power), during response and recovery.
Upgrades will be done to the well supply water system and piping. Upgrades will be made for a 700KW generator and the power distribution for the buildings. The upgrades to the generator will support lighting, fire alarms, ice machines, cooler/freezer, air handler, and gas cooking systems. 

 

Fiscal Impact:

MOU: $515,867.11

The funding source is the Penny for Pinellas, Emergency Shelter Buildings Program.

A total of $689,400.00 is budgeted for emergency shelter capacity projects in FY17.
