4.6 Support a vibrant community with recreation, arts, and culture to attract residents and visitors

Summary:

The Board of County Commissioners (BCC) at its December 13, 2016 meeting, discussed and decided that as to the TDC appointments from:

1) the most populous municipality in Pinellas County (St. Petersburg)
2) the municipality in which the greatest percentage of bed tax revenue is generated in Pinellas County (Clearwater)

That the BCC would appoint those municipalities’ respective Mayors or the Mayors’ designee who would also be an elected official from that municipality.

However, while the BCC at that meeting decided that those two aforementioned appointments would be those municipalities Mayors’ or their designees, the BCC never took action to formally appoint those two appointees.

Thus, in keeping with its decided process, the BCC should now formally appoint Councilman Charlie Gerdes, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman’s designee as the appointee from the most populous municipality and Mayor George Cretekos from City of Clearwater as the appointee from the municipality where the most bed tax is generated.

Additionally at the December 13 regular meeting, the BCC requested that the Mayors’ Council and the Big-C submit nominees so that the BCC could select an individual member representative from each body. Those nominees are noted in the attached correspondence and ballots.
