Approve the Tourism Promotion Agreement with the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, Inc. (TBSC) in support of the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship game and events.

Summary:

This Agreement with the TBSC is to promote and market County tourism as it relates to the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship (Championship Game) and game week events. 

In exchange for this monetary support, the County will receive marketing benefits including naming rights as Presenting Partner of the Fan Beach Fest to be held on Clearwater Beach, an ad in the official game program, logo recognition on all applicable promotional elements, inclusion in the official event housing program, and other assets as detailed in the Host Committee Agreement.

 

Background Information:

The Championship Game is college football’s premier event scheduled to take place on January 9, 2017, in Raymond James Stadium.  TBSC has planned what will be a memorable celebration of activities and events leading up to the Championship Game including a Fan Beach Fest to be held on Clearwater Beach on January 8, 2016.

According to the organizers, the Championship Game is anticipated to have the following impact to the Tampa Bay area:  72,000 game attendees, 1,700-1,800 full time equivalent jobs, 60,000 total room nights in the region with 12,000 room nights in Pinellas County, and a $250M - $350M economic impact to the region.
                
On April 20, 2016, the Tourist Development Council unanimously approved the funding for this event.

 

Fiscal Impact:

Funding to support the Tourism Promotion Agreement in the amount of $650,000 is provided through the Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Annual Operating Budget.  The source of funding is the Tourist Development Tax.
