Summary
Section 1011.71(9) of the Florida Statutes allows the School Board to seek millage to be approved by a vote of the electorate so long as the additional millage, when combined with the non-voted millage levied, does not exceed the 10-mill constitutional cap established in Section 9(b), Article VII, of the State Constitution. Florida Statutes also authorizes the School Board to direct the Board of County Commissioners to call an election for this purpose. This proposed levy will be extended for an additional four (4) years beginning July 1, 2021, and continuing through June 30, 2025. The amount of this levy is one-half mill. This tax is currently in place and the School Board is seeking to continue that collection. The attached resolution calls for an election in accordance with the provisions of the Pinellas County School Board resolution and Sections 1011.71 and 1011.73 of the Florida Statutes.
