5.1 Maximize partner relationships and public outreach
Summary:
The purpose of this grant application is to fund stormdrain placards and product-specific adhesive for the purposes of marking stormdrains throughout the County. The stormdrain marker messaging is intended to educate and inform the public and reduce the amount of stormwater pollution (i.e. trash, sediment, pet waste and grass clippings) entering local waters via roadside stormdrains, thereby improving water quality.
Background/Explanation:
Pinellas County supports citizen volunteer efforts countywide to address water quality issues that have no jurisdictional boundaries. The grant funded products allow for distribution throughout the County. These materials will supplement long-standing volunteer projects and replenish supplies. The placards and adhesive are provided in a stormdrain marking kit with existing print materials (doorhangers) that are also grant funded through TBRPC.
The placards identify the nearest waterbody which receives stormwater runoff from a particular stormdrain (i.e. drains to lake, drains to Tampa Bay, drains to the Gulf). The doorhangers provide tips to property owners on how they can prevent stormwater pollution (i.e. picking up pet waste, blowing grass clippings back on the lawn).
Fiscal Impact:
The Grant request is for $5,657.88 to purchase materials for stormdrain marking throughout the County. The Department Budget has sufficient appropriation and will not require an amendment. It is expected the project will be 100% reimbursed from TBRPC if the grant is awarded.
