Adoption of the resolution supporting the honorary designation of Alternate U.S. Highway 19/Edgewater Drive/Broadway/Bayshore Boulevard (SR 595), from Orange Street to Orangewood Drive, as the Specialist (SPC) Zachary L. Shannon Memorial Highway.

 

                     Legislation was signed by the Governor of Florida on May 30, 2023.

                     On March 11, 2013, Zachary L. Shannon, a Specialist with the United States Army, was killed in UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter Crash while in serving in Kandahar, Afghanistan. 

                     Adoption of the resolution will support the honorary designation of Alternate U.S. Highway 19/Edgewater Drive/Broadway/Bayshore Boulevard (SR 595), from Orange Street to Orangewood Drive, as the SPC Zachary L. Shannon Memorial Highway to recognize his service and dedication to the citizens of the United States.

                     Zachary Shannon was a lifelong Dunedin resident and graduate of Dunedin High School.

The Florida Legislation, signed by the Governor of Florida on May 30, 2023, designated Alternate U.S. Highway 19/Edgewater Drive/Broadway/Bayshore Boulevard (SR 595), from Orange Street to Orangewood Drive, as the SPC Zachary L. Shannon Memorial Highway. Section 334.071(3), Florida Statutes, requires a resolution of support from the County Commission before any markers identifying SPC Zachary L. Shannon Memorial Highway may be placed.
