Approve four reappointments and one new appointment to the County Council for Persons with Disabilities for a term of two years beginning on May 23, 2025.

 

                     Commissioners Scott, Eggers, Latvala and Flowers will be reappointing their current appointees to a new term which will begin May 23, 2025.  Indicated below in the list of reappointments is how many terms each individual will have served as of May 22, 2025 when their current term ends. 

o                     Reappointments:

§                     Todd Jennings (1 term) - Commissioner Scott

§                     Ross Silvers (4 terms) - Commissioner Eggers

§                     Doreen Caudell (1 term) - Commissioner Latvala

§                     Deborah Figgs-Sanders (4 terms) - Commissioner Flowers

                     Commissioner Peters current appointee, Ms. Kerry Carlisle has decided to step down.  Commissioner Peters will now be appointing Ms. Carlisle’s son, Connor, who was a member of the Pinellas County Youth Advisory Committee for several years.

Background Information:

The Pinellas County Council for Persons with Disabilities was created to provide Policy advice and information to the BCC, through the Office of Human Rights, regarding issues of accessibility and on issues of discrimination.

The County Council for Person with Disabilities shall be composed of a total of 13 members. 

Seven members shall be individually appointed by each member of the Board of County Commissioners and one member each shall be appointed by: 
(1) the board of directors of the Disability Achievement Center;
(2) the board of directors of Providing Advocacy & Recognizing Capabilities (PARC);
(3) the board of directors of Florida Gulf Coast Paralyzed Veterans of America;
(4) the board of directors of the Boley Centers;
(5) the board of directors of the Family Network on Disabilities; and
(6) the board of directors of the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas, Inc. 

Except for the initial appointment, Council members shall serve at the pleasure of their appointing authority for a term of two years from the date of appointment.  The initial term shall be two years for the seven members appointed by each of the Board members, and three years for the appointments made by the appointing authorities outlined in Sec. 70-403(a)(1-6).  Members may hold successive terms upon reappointment. Each member, regardless of the way the member was appointed, may be removed by the Board without cause.  Any vacancy in the membership of the Council shall be filled for the unexpired portion of the term, in the same manner as an appointment for a full term.
