Renewal of Certificates of Public Convenience and Necessity for Advanced Life Support providers.

Recommended Action:

Recommended Action

Approval of the renewal Certificates of Public Convenience and Necessity (COPCN) for the attached list of Advanced Life Support (ALS) providers. COPCNs are issued by Boards of County Commissioners (BCC) in all Counties in Florida. The certificate allows Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provider agencies to be licensed by the Florida Department of Health.

 

                     The certificate process ensures there are coordinated and regulated EMS Systems at a County level.

                     Certificates are issued on an annual basis to ensure continuous compliance to the various standards and requirements.

                     A COPCN is issued to ALS First Responders, ALS Helicopters, Hospital ground ambulances, All Children’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and Sunstar in accordance with Section 401.25, Florida Statutes.

                     The current COPCNs will expire on December 31, 2023. If approved, the new expiration date will be December 31, 2024.

                     There is no fiscal impact for certifications. Staff administration of the process is included in the annual operating budget for the EMS Fund.
