Summary
On July 27, 2022, the Largo Police Department requested the assistance of Animal Services at the Hampton Inn Hotel located at 100 East Bay Drive. In the hotel room, Animal Services found one living dog and one living cat, along with one deceased dog and one deceased cat. The living cat and the deceased cat were contained inside the same small animal carrier. Animal Services seized the living animals and sent the deceased animals for a necropsy.
Due to the owner’s inability to adequately care for the animals, Animal Services requested litigation be initiated in accordance with Section 828.073, Florida Statutes. Pursuant to Resolution No. 21-2, Pinellas County has now filed an action seeking custody and ownership of the two living animals and to enjoin the respondent from owning animals or, in the alternative, for the Court to enter an Order to Provide Care for the animals.
