Summary:
In accordance with the Board’s approval of BP projects and associated funding for each project on December 13, 2016, this Funding Agreement with Be Safe, Inc. will provide $125,000.00 to support the acquisition of a water safety training and education facility.
Background/Explanation:
Be Safe, Inc. is a non-profit organization expressly chartered to help the Clearwater Flotilla of the Coast Guard Auxiliary acquire a headquarters and training facility in the Clearwater area.
This facility would be used to:
(1) Conduct boating education classes to the recreational public.
(2) Present proficiency training to Auxiliary trainees.
(3) House a radio room to communicate with Coast Guard Station Sand Key, Air Station Clearwater, Sector St. Petersburg as well as underway rescue boats, helicopters and to support Search & Rescue operations.
(4) Support underway Auxiliary patrols for safety and boater assistance for community on-the-water events such as Christmas boat parades, Super Boat races and Clearwater Community Sailing Center regattas.
(5) Organize and execute environmental protection responses in partnership with Keep Pinellas Beautiful and other parks and recreation organizations.
(6) Coordinate Public Affairs outreach activities.
Fiscal Impact:
This Funding Agreement provides $125,000.00 from the $7.1 million BP Economic Settlement Funds. The funding has been appropriated for this purpose in the FY2017 Budget. The County shall have no obligations related to maintenance, operation, and/or any other activity yielding a fiscal impact.
Delegated Authority:
Authority for the County Administrator to sign this Funding Agreement is granted under Resolution No. 16-90 adopted on December 13, 2016.
