Recommended Action

Approval by the County Administrator of the sole source purchase with Alexon, LLC (Alexon) for rodent eradication services.

Contract 178-0190-SS(PF) in the annual amount of $204,247.40 for a sixty (60) month term total of $1,021,237.00.

Body

Strategic Plan:

Deliver First Class Services to the Public and Our Customers
5.3 Ensure effective and efficient delivery of county services and support

Summary:

This request for a sole source purchase for Alexon to continue to provide rodent eradication services and provide an on-going maintenance program to mitigate re-infestation at County-owned properties.  Eradicating rodents is a high priority to ensure County facilities are maintained in a healthy and safe manner for the benefit of its employees, the public, sheltered animals, and neighboring properties.

Background/Explanation:

A notice of intent to sole source rodent eradication services was advertised by the Purchasing Department via DemandStar on January 4, 2018.  There were no responses to the advertisement.  While there are other rodent eradication providers available, Alexon provides a rodent-free guarantee with their services that no other provider can or will match, thus creating a sole source.

In addition, there are expenses associated with changing providers.  The County has already invested in the Alexon eradication process.  If this were not a sole source, for each competitive cycle, the County may incur additional expenses for such services.

Fiscal Impact:

Estimated sixty (60) month expenditure not to exceed:  $1,021,237.00

Estimated annual expenditure not to exceed:  $204,247.40

Funding is derived from various departments’ operating budgets.

Delegated Authority:

Authority for the County Administrator to approve this sole source purchase is granted under Code Section 2-180(c)(2).
