Recommended Action:

Approve one appointment or reappointment to the Pinellas Park Water Management District (PPWMD) Board for a three-year term beginning on January 1, 2021.

 

                     The appointment of one person to serve on the PPWMD Board for a term of 3 years beginning on January 1, 2021 and ending on December 31, 2023.

                     Names can be viewed on the attached Worksheet/Ballot.

                     Clerk will do a roll call vote.

Background Information:

The Board has the purpose and authority to manage the stormwater drainage system for Pinellas Park and surrounding unincorporated areas incorporated within the District.

The authority shall have the right to purchase, own and maintain storm drainage facilities; to contract for construction of facilities; to exercise power of eminent domain; to conduct studies; and to contract with other governmental agencies, private companies and individuals. The authority shall have and may exercise all powers necessary to carry out aforesaid purposes including the right to sue and be sued, to adopt a corporate seal, to acquire, purchase, lease, hold, property real or personal, to regulate the construction of storm drainage facilities, to establish rules and regulations, make contracts of every name and nature, to enter into management contracts and to borrow money.

The governing body of the authority shall consist initially of three members; two members shall be appointed by the city council of Pinellas Park and one member appointed by the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners. Members shall serve a three-year term.  Per the Special Act, members must be qualified residents of the District with outstanding reputations for civic pride, interest, integrity, responsibility and business ability, and cannot be an officer or employee of any city or of the county in any capacity, except elected officials.
