Summary:

This request seeks purchase authorization for one (1) Pierce medium duty rescue squad truck. This purchase supports the vehicle replacement plan set forth in Appendix B of the Technical Rescue Team Agreement executed by the Cities of Clearwater, Largo, Pinellas Park, St Petersburg and the County.

Background Information:

This vehicle will replace the City of Pinellas Park’s Technical Rescue Squad 34 and will be utilized as one of four primary Technical Rescue Units countywide. The unit’s primary purpose is “confined space rescue”, but, it will also be equipped for rope rescue and other heavy rescue missions. This unit will be strategically placed near a high concentration of industrial facilities. This unit has been specifically tailored to meet the needs of the Technical Rescue Team for equipment storage and functionality.

There is a full Technical Rescue Team response approximately every 26 days countywide that requires the specialized equipment and capabilities of this unit. The preparedness for confined space and other technical rescue situations is a critical need to address structure collapses, trench and below grade rescue, rope rescue, and heavy machinery extrication incidents. The unit’s useful life is expected to be 20 years and this vehicle will replace a unit that is 25 years old.

The purchase is per the pricing, terms and conditions of Florida Sheriffs Association, Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association and Florida Association of Counties Contract No. FSA16-VEF12.0, Fire Rescue Vehicles & Other Equipment.
