Approval and execution by the County Administrator of the Agreement with Schindler Elevator Corporation (Schindler) for requirements of elevator and escalator maintenance and repair services.

                     Agreement with Schindler for elevator and escalator maintenance at the Criminal Justice Center

                     Schindler is the sole provider for these services as they manufacture the controllers that operate the elevators and escalators and use their own proprietary software in the controllers.

                     The Agreement is in the amount of $566,000.00 culminative for a sixty-month term

Summary:

This Agreement provides a mechanism for the Real Estate Management Department to maintain Schindler elevators and escalators located at the Criminal Justice Center.  The controllers that operate the elevators and escalators are manufactured by Schindler utilizing their own proprietary software creating a sole source contract.

 

Background/Explanation:

The original contract ended in January 31, 2019.  Schindler continued to provide maintenance and repair services throughout the process of drafting and obtaining approval for this Agreement. The program is the result of an ongoing engineering effort to maintain optimum reliability of the equipment as it ages and common problems are identified.  No competitor can provide service and continue implementation of this program due to that Schindler is the sole provider.

 

Fiscal Impact:

Estimated annual expenditure not to exceed:                             $113,200.00

Estimated sixty-month expenditure not to exceed:                     $566,000.00

 

Funding is derived from the Real Estate Management operating budget.

 

Delegated Authority:

Authority for the County Administrator to approve and execute this Agreement is granted under Code Section 2-180(1).
