Summary:
Summary
FDEP is providing a funding opportunity through the WQI Grant Program for projects with a focus on protecting water quality. The four (4) onsite septic treatment systems at Philippe Park have identified for this project have been degrading and are in danger of failing, which puts Tampa Bay at risk of leachates from sewage. The project will connect Philippe Park restrooms to the City of Safety Harbor’s wastewater collection system for proper treatment and disposal of sewage.
Body
Background Information:
WQI is a competitive grant program which provides financial assistance to local governmental entities to implement ecologically sensitive wastewater solutions. If awarded, the funding will offset construction costs for the septic-to-sewer conversion project of four (4) septic systems at Philippe Park.
Fiscal Impact:
Philippe Park Wastewater Collection System Improvements, 000341G, is currently a sub-project of the CW Park Utility Infrastructure project, 000341A, budgeted in the FY24-FY29 Capital Improvement Program and funded by Local Infrastructure Sales Tax (Penny for Pinellas).
The total project estimate is $3,450,000. If the requested FDEP grant funding of $2,450,000 is awarded, it will offset Penny for Pinellas by the same amount. $1,000,000 of the project estimate would remain funded by Penny for Pinellas as a match.
