Background Information:

The Pinellas County Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is a partnership between the Pinellas Board of County Commissioners (BCC) and UF/IFAS Extension, 4-H Youth Development. Because of this partnership, members of YAC have access to resources within county government and research-based youth development from the University of Florida and 4-H. This committee provides students countywide an opportunity to assist the BCC with identifying their needs, organize activities that are beneficial to the community, suggest services they need as a group, and to become active participants with their adult counterparts in county programs.

The goals of Pinellas YAC members are to develop leadership and citizenship skills, serve as the voice of Pinellas youth, and become aware of potential career opportunities (in government or otherwise) through their time serving on the Youth Advisory Committee.

A Open House was held August 19, 2026, and the application period closed on September 1, 2026. The Committee’s orientation and first meeting of the 2026 -2027 school year will take place on September 16th.

The Pinellas County Youth Advisory Committee was originally established in December 2001 by Resolution No. 01-356.  In 2011, YAC was re-established by Resolution 11-78.  Then in 2014, Resolution 14-94 increased the maximum number of students on YAC from 15 to 25 members in response to an unprecedented number of applications. In 2020, Resolution 20-82 amended the term of appointments to extend over the summer and expire once the subsequent Committee is appointed by the BCC.
