Summary
On September 28, 2023, Pinellas County Animal Services received a complaint of animals that had been abandoned at 411 Princess Street, Clearwater, FL, 33755. Following multiple visits to the property and attempts to reach the owner Mr. Newmark, on October 14, 2023 Pinellas County Animal Services was granted access to the home by the landlord. Upon entering the home Animal Services discovered a dog and cat, both in distress, and seized the animals. Both animals appeared visibly malnourished.
The dog was contained in a crate with no food or water, where there was a large quantity of animal feces present, as well as the overwhelming smell of ammonia. The cat had no access to food or water and had no access to a clean litter box.
Due to the owner’s inability to adequately care for the dog and cat, Animal Services requested litigation be initiated in accordance with Section 828.073, Florida Statutes. Pursuant to Resolution No. 21-23, Pinellas County has filed an action seeking custody and ownership of the dog and cat, and to enjoin the respondent from owning animals or, in the alternative, for the Court to enter an Order to Provide Care for the animals.
