Body

Strategic Plan:

Deliver First Class Services to the Public and Our Customers
5.3 Ensure effective and efficient delivery of County services and support

Summary:

The First Amendment increases the contract in the amount of $74,800 with a revised annual spend of $149,800.00 and a revised total not-to-exceed of $449,800.00. This increase provides sufficient funding for Motorola to install Temple Glance components into Ambulances and Fire Rescue vehicles for the Traffic Signal Preemption project.

Background/Explanation:

Traffic Preemption would only be used when the warning lights and sirens are activated.

Currently, 70% of Ambulance and Fire Rescue responses to 911 calls are downgraded by Dispatch and light/sirens are not utilized. 30% of Ambulance and Fire Rescue responses to 911 calls are for life-threatening or potentially life-threatening calls and require the use of lights/sirens.

Due to a judicious countywide policy regarding lights and sirens for both Ambulance and Fire Rescue, less than 10% of patient transports to the hospital require lights and sirens.

Further, when a countywide Computer Aided Dispatch System is implemented, both Ambulance and Fire Rescue will be dispatched "after determinant" (the determination of the severity of the 911 emergency) which should further reduce the use of lights and sirens.

Fiscal Impact:

Original Contract Expenditure                     $375,000.00

First Amendment                                                               $  74,800.00

Revised total Contract value                     $449,800.00

Funding for this amendment is derived from the Emergency Medical Services Fund FY25 adopted budget.

Delegated Authority:

Authority for the County Administrator to sign this Amendment is granted under Code Section 2-62 (a)(1).
