Adoption of the resolution supporting the honorary designation of United States (U.S.) 92/State Route 600/Gandy Boulevard from Southwest Shore Boulevard in Hillsborough County to 4th Street North in Pinellas County is designated as Senator James A. Sebesta Memorial Highway.

 

                     Legislation signed by Governor DeSantis on July 1, 2025.

                     Adoption of the resolution supports honorary designation of U.S. 92/State Route 600/Gandy Boulevard between Southwest Shore Boulevard in Hillsborough County and 4th Street North in Pinellas County.

                     Roadway segment to be designated as Senator James A. Sebesta Memorial Highway recognizing his service and dedication to the citizens of the United States.

This Florida Legislation, signed by Governor DeSantis on July 1, 2025, designates U.S. 92/State Route 600/Gandy Boulevard from South West Shore Boulevard in Hillsborough County to 4th Street North in Pinellas County as Senator James A. Sebesta Memorial Highway. Adoption of the Resolution supports the designation. The action recognizes his service and dedication to the citizens of the United States. Section 334.071(3), Florida Statutes, requires a resolution of support from the Board of County Commissioners before any markers identifying Senator James A. Sebesta Memorial Highway may be placed.

Background Information:

James A. Sebesta and his family moved to St. Petersburg in 1984. Mr. Sebesta served as a Republican member of the Florida Senate from 1998 to 2006 where he focused on planning for Florida’s growth as Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee. His goal was to make traveling in Florida safer. His contributions include the 1999 reopening of the former Gandy Bridge as the Friendship Trail Bridge for pedestrians and bicyclists.
