3.3 Protect and improve the quality of our water, air and other natural resources

Summary:

This action provides a two-year project period extension and an additional second year cash award of $121,871.00 and $54,129.00 in EPA in-kind support for the existing National Air Toxics Trend Site (NATTS).  This project represents a continuation of a national ongoing effort to characterize air toxics and assess trends in ambient levels by conducting primary and collocated monitoring in urban and rural areas. Data will be used to measure progress in meeting goals for reducing air toxics emissions and associated health risks.

Background/Explanation:

This monitoring program/project has been ongoing since 2004.  It monitors a select group of air toxics in an urban area in accordance with EPA requirements and standards.   EPA Section 103 grants are typically awarded/issued for a project and budget period of 1 to 6 years.  This award is for the second year of the project/budget funding cycle which includes costs from 7/01/16 through 6/30/17.

Fiscal Impact:

The award action extends the current project period retroactive from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2018, and increases the original award amount of $155,000.00 by an additional cash award of $121,871.00 and $54,129.00 in EPA in-kind support. No match is required. The grant provides 100% reimbursements for approved costs.  Expenditures are budgeted in the Air Quality Division operating budget of the General Fund and Tag Fee Fund.
