Summary

On September 16, 2021, a Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputy contacted Pinellas County Code Enforcement to determine whether the defendant’s home needed to be condemned due to structural damage and unsafe and unsanitary conditions.  The Sheriff had been contacted by Animal Services who seized animals from the home for being maintained in cruel and neglectful conditions and for which litigation was additionally instituted.  Additionally, there are numerous code violations including trash and debris and exterior storage.

Based on an initial exterior inspection of the home, Code Enforcement made a preliminary determination that the home was unfit for human habitation.  At that time, the home was posted for condemnation.  The interior was photographed by the Sheriff’s Department, and additionally witnessed by Animal Services.  It appears that based upon the condition, the home should be demolished.

Due to the severity of the unsanitary conditions, approval to initiate litigation from the Board of County Commissioner’s Chair was sought pursuant to Resolution No. 21-23.  Pinellas County has now filed an action to require the defendant to remediate the code violations, as well as seeking authority for Pinellas County to demolish the structure.
