Background Information:

In 1968, Florida voters amended the state constitution to provide counties with the power to govern themselves, often referred to as home-rule. Twenty of Florida’s 67 counties are Charter Counties. Pinellas County became a Charter County in 1980, with approval of the voters. The Pinellas County Charter Review Commission meets every 8 years to review the Charter and make recommendations to amend the Charter.  The composition of the Pinellas County Charter Review Commission is as follows:
                     One (1) County Commissioner
                     One (1) Constitutional Officer
One (1) member of the Pinellas Legislative Delegation residing in Pinellas  County
                     One (1) Municipal Elected Official
Seven (7) members from the public, each of whom shall be nominated by a  Commissioner from among the residents of that Commissioner’s district, and none of whom shall be an elected official
Two (2) members from the public at-large, neither of whom shall be an elected official
