5.3 Ensure effective and efficient delivery of county services and support
5.4 Strive to exceed customer expectations

Summary:

Approval of this letter provides written confirmation of the County Administrator’s support of the Public Works Department’s effort toward achieving accreditation through the APWA.

Background/Explanation:

Accreditation from the APWA represents recognition that a Public Works Department subscribes to the concept of continuous improvements and has conducted an in-depth self-assessment of its policies, procedures and practices.  It is also verification that the Public Works Department complies with the recommended practices set forth in the Public Works Management Practices Manual, which provides assistance in maintaining high levels of performance and service to the public.  This objective is very much aligned with the mission statement of the County’s strategic plan, whereby the County is committed to progressive public policy, superior public service, courteous public contact, judicious exercise of authority and responsible management of public resources, to meet the needs and concerns of our citizens today and tomorrow.

Once achieved, the APWA accreditation remains valid for a four (4) year period.  A re-accreditation evaluation process will be required thereafter to confirm that the Public Works Department continues on the path of continuous improvement with regards to its operations, policies, procedures and practices.
