Summary:
The budget amendment realigns $1,000,000 from the Reserves Program to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) cost center. Additional appropriation is required to issue an unanticipated payment as outlined in the letter to the County Administrator dated June 16, 2016.
Background Information:
In January 2016, a PCSO detective was involved in an automobile accident resulting in catastrophic injuries to the other driver. Counsel for the other driver demanded that the PCSO tender the self-insured retention amount of $1,000,000 and the excess carrier tender the excess policy amount of $15,000,000. On June 15, 2016, the excess carrier accepted the demand.
Fiscal Impact:
This amendment will transfer $1,000,000 from General Fund Reserve for Contingencies to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office cost center within the General Fund. This amendment is consistent with the FY16 estimates provided during the FY17 budget development process.
