The purpose of this project is to repair and reconstruct boardwalk paths at Boca Ciega Millennium Park. This project will address approximately 30,000 square feet of boardwalk and tower deck areas in Boca Ciega Millennium Park. Work includes replacement of approximately 6,000 feet of timber beams and connecting infrastructure, and over 7,000 feet of timber railing.
Background Information:
The project is necessary due to normal wear and tear of the boardwalk and surrounding infrastructure and for pedestrian safety. The existing boardwalk was constructed in 2001 in an aggressive environment on the intercoastal waterway. The boardwalk is exposed to the elements and the majority of the boardwalk receives direct sunlight year round. In recent years, the timber handrails, posts, and deck have become split, cracked, and rotted. The repair and reconstruction project will utilize wood plastic composite lumber to extend service life.
Fiscal Impact:
Total expenditure not to exceed: $978,617.50
Funding for this project is derived from the Infrastructure Sales Tax (Penny for Pinellas): Countywide Park Infrastructure Improvements.
