Strategic Plan:

Deliver First Class Services to the Public and Our Customers
5.1 Maximize partner relationships and public outreach
5.2 Be responsible stewards of the public’s resources

Summary:

In accordance with Florida Statutes 200.065(2)b, the Board of County Commissioners shall notify the Property Appraiser’s Office (PAO) of the maximum millage rates for all taxing authorities under its purview within 35 days of certification of the preliminary tax roll by PAO on June 26. These millage rates may not be increased but may be decreased, after notification and prior to the adoption of the final millage rates and budgets at a public hearing on September 19.

Background Information:

These maximum millage rates are used in the development of the Truth in Millage notices to be mailed by PAO to all property owners on approximately August 19, 2024. At this BCC Meeting, the Board may also provide feedback on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Proposed Budget delivered on July 16, 2024, and direct changes to this budget. Any changes would be incorporated into the FY25 Tentative Budget to be posted to the County’s Citizen Budget website (https://pinellas.gov/citizens-guide-to-the-budget/) on September 3 and considered along with tentative millage rates at a public hearing on September 5. Changes may also be directed prior to the adoption of the final millage rates and budgets at a public hearing on September 19.

Fiscal Impact:

Establishing maximum millage rates for certification to the Property Appraiser is required to comply with Florida Statutes.
