Approve appointments of Dr. Tonjua Williams and Mr. Kim Marston, Jr. for two year terms, to expire June 30, 2019.  These nominations were recommended by the WorkNet Executive Committee on August 2, 2017.

Background Information:

WorkNet Pinellas d/b/a CareerSource Pinellas (CareerSource) is governed by a Board of Directors, including a County Commissioner, service provider representatives, and business representatives from the private sector, all appointed by the Board of County Commissioners (Board).

CareerSource is approved for up to 45 members, and complies with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014.  There are four categories of partner representation:  1) representatives of business; 2) representatives of local labor and community based organizations serving individuals with barriers; 3) representatives of education; and 4) representatives of governments, economic, and community development.

The Workforce Development Board has all the power and authority necessary or convenient to carry out and effectuate the purposes of this section including but not limited to:  advising and assisting in the formulation of the State’s economic policy regarding workforce development; advising and assisting in developing the State’s strategic workforce development plan; advising and assisting in the State’s workforce development strategic planning process; evaluating the performance and effectiveness of Florida’s workforce development programs; reporting to the Board of Directors of Workforce Florida, Inc. regarding recommendations, responsibilities, and functions; soliciting, borrowing, accepting, receiving, investing, and expending funds; contracting with public and private entities as necessary to further the directives of this section; approving an annual budget; carrying forward any unexpended state appropriations into succeeding fiscal years; and providing an annual report to Workforce Florida, Inc.
