Summary:

Board approval of the new County precinct lines will ensure compliance with Florida Statute 101.001.  The Florida State Legislature completed the redistricting and the final maps were approved by the Florida Supreme Court in December 2015.

Background Information:

On August 21, 2015, the Board was notified that the Florida State Legislature was holding special sessions to redraw Congressional and State Senate Districts.

The new Congressional and State Senate district lines impact voters in north and south Pinellas County, and the renumbering of State Senate Districts impacts all Pinellas County voters.  Once these precinct lines are approved by the Board, the Supervisor of Elections will move forward with additional redistricting requirements that include updating the voter registration database with the revised U.S. Congressional and State Senate district lines and adjusted precinct lines, as well as the new State Senate district numbers.  Voter Information Cards will be mailed to all the approximate 630,000 registered Pinellas County voters, as required by Florida Law, in June 2016.

Fiscal Impact:

On February 22, 2016, the Supervisor of Elections requested additional funding in the amount of $407,000.00 to be used for address list maintenance activities, printing and mailing Voter Information Cards to each registered voter, and printing new Congressional, Senate and precinct maps, all of which are mandated by Florida law.  The Board approved the budget amendment at its March 29, 2016 meeting.
