The FL Constitution; Chapter 110, FL Statutes, Chapter 112, FL Statutes, Chapter 125, FL Statutes, Section 163.01, FL Statutes and other applicable provisions of the law allow for funding of GAL programming from the local counties. The GAL program was created in 1980 to provide volunteer advocacy in the child welfare system and court to ensure that the voice of the child is heard. Program staff recruit, train and manage community volunteers as they represent the children through case management and advocacy. In 2019, GAL will serve 2,927 children on a 12-month rolling basis and have a minimum of 872 active volunteers. GAL envisions a community where each child and young adult is safe, secure and thriving.
