Summary

This is an application for a new designation of a Local Workforce Development Area (LWDA). The application is the official request made to the Governor for designation from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026.

Body

Background Information:

The Governor must designate Local Workforce Development Areas (LWDA) in order for the State to receive adult, dislocated worker, and youth funding under Title I, subtitle B of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.

The Governor may approve a request for designation as a LWDA if the state workforce development board (state board) recommends designation after determining that the area: 1) Is consistent with the local labor market area; 2) Has a common economic development area; and 3) Has the federal and non-federal resources available to the proposed LWDA, including appropriate education and training institutions, to administer activities under the WIOA youth, adult, and dislocated worker formula programs.

The request must contain the signature of all of the CEOs of the units of local government that will make up the new local workforce development area, to demonstrate that the request is the consensus of all the units of local government involved.
