Body
Strategic Priorities:
Resilient Infrastructure and Environment
1.4 Improve environmental quality.
1.5 Strengthen resilience and adaptation.
Summary:
The Agreement provides funding to treat invasive and nuisance vegetation treatment and for bank stabilization at Lake Tarpon Area 6 alum site. The site is owned by FDOT; however, the County operates and maintains an alum stormwater treatment site at the same location. The funds help the County to maintain the site to a level of service that allows for operation of the alum treatment system.
Background/Explanation:
The Lake Tarpon Area 6 pond is located at a FDOT owned and County maintained advanced stormwater treatment area adjacent to Lake Tarpon off U.S. Highway 19 in Tarpon Springs. The system has been in operation since 2012 and provides nutrient reductions in stormwater prior to entering Lake Tarpon. In recent years, vegetation within the pond and along the banks has become increasingly dense and FDOT does not maintain the system to a level of service that allows for the alum system to operate.
Fiscal Impact:
Total estimated cost of the project is $10,000.00 annually over five (5) years. Total funding for the work is $50,000. The County is not required to provide a match. Funding for this contract is included in the FY26 budget of Public Works in the Surface Water Utility Fund.
