Strategic Priorities:

2.2 Enhance community safety

Summary:

The approval and execution of the WF Spark Good Local Grant application and other pre-award documents is a requirement to obtaining the award.  The grant application opening date occurred on August 1, 2025 and closed on October 15, 2025.  Emergency Management applied and submitted the required application documents through the online portal on October 14, 2025 for use in preparedness within the whole community program for vulnerable populations.

Background/Explanation:

The WF Spark Good Local Grant provides local cash awards ranging from $250 to $5,000 from Walmart U.S stores, Sam’s Club and Distribution Centers within the community area of request.  A maximum of twenty-five pending or approved applications are allowable per organization at any one time.  Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners (County) is considered a single organization.   Once funded, reapplication to the same facility is not allowed within the same fiscal year.  Additional facilities can be requested for grant funding.

Fiscal Impact:

The WF Spark Good Local Grant Award up to $5,000.00 is not included in the FY26 adopted budget and a budget amendment will be proposed if funding is awarded.

If approved by the Walmart Foundation Spark Good Local Grant, grant funds of $5,000.00 will be provided with no grant match required. This grant was not anticipated during the development of the FY26 Adopted Budget; therefore, if approved, a budget amendment will likely be requested to recognize and appropriate the funds into the Emergency Management General Fund. Since this is not budgeted, no budgeted funds will be offset if the grant is awarded.
