Summary:

This Second Renewal extends the Interlocal Agreement between the County and the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court that outlines the administration and oversight of Drug Court-related funding. The renewal period extends through September 30, 2026.

Background/Explanation:

Drug Court operates in accordance with Chapter 65D-30, Florida Administrative Code, known as the Substance Abuse Standards. Drug Court exists to provide participants the opportunity to avoid a jail sentence and to become productive, drug-free members of the community.

The Courts, with the support of the County, operate several specialty court programs including but not limited to:

The Adult Drug Court Program, which is an eighteen (18) to twenty-four (24) month, court-supervised, comprehensive treatment program for non-violent felony offenders.

The Pinellas Family Dependency Treatment Court (FDTC) provides safe, nurturing, and permanent homes and developmental services for children of parents with substance use disorders who are involved with the courts, while also providing parents with the necessary treatment and supportive services they need to achieve stable recovery.

The Pinellas Juvenile Drug Court Program serves as a diversion program for juveniles who have received misdemeanor and/or felony drug charges.

The Pinellas Mental Health Court supports cross-system collaboration to improve public safety responses and outcomes for individuals with mental illnesses or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders who encounter the justice system.
